Frequently Asked Installation Questions
Is it expensive to install tile?
A: Relative to other types of floor coverings, it is initially more expensive to install tile. However, your tile may never need replacement and has lower maintenance costs than other materials, saving you money over the long run. It is extremely important that you make sure the tile is what you want before it is installed. Any claims in regard to colors, textures or markings will not be allowed once the tile is installed.
A: If you are thinking of doing your own installation, there are many books and videos available. Some projects are well-suited to a do-it-yourselfer. For any more involved projects, we highly recommend that you use an installation professional. Not only are they trained to give you great results, they provide many value-added services as well, such as deliveries, take-offs and warranties.
A: We can provide you with a contractor referral list. These contractors are not employed by or affiliated with Mid-America Tile. We leave it to you to make the contacts, get references and discuss all your needs in detail. Bear in mind that the lowest bidder may not be the best choice for your project.
How do I know how much tile I need to order?
A: To calculate square footage, multiply the length times the width of the area you want covered. For most standard installations, add 5-7% to allow for cutting loss and replacement tiles. If you are installing a multi-size or diagonal pattern, add 10-15%.
